I see that the Quest 3 Way Fridge is on offer at GO for £135 at the moment, tempted.....but....you can pick up a table top fridge of a similar size for £100. We always glamp now and have a EHU so should we go Quest or Table Top?? Any thoughts of others would help please...

Definitely a 3 way, they're robust, quiet, very cold and more versatile. A domestic fridge isn't designed to be moved about and don't like being turned on and off

Definitely a table top!
Have had one for six years now, and no problem.
Cheaper and probably more room inside.

Horses for courses.

3 way has the advantage of 12V, 230V or gas. They use the absorption method and are therefore silent in use, so good for use if you sleep next to it. They tend to be a bit more expensive. They can be used on 12V while travelling.

Table top use the compressor method and therefore make a cyclic humming noise when in use. They have to be transported upright or on their front. They only operate on mains 230V so can't be used while travelling.

Both types will cool the wine and beer when at the camp site!

I shall replace my thermo-electric cool box with a 3-way fridge eventually.

A 3-way 24  It's much more versatile. Just because you always glamp at the moment doesn't mean that you always will - we've used the gas option for ours when on our favourite site which doesn't have EHU. 3-way fridges are built specifically for camping/caravan/motorhome etc. so they  are silent running, you don't have to allow time for them to settle down after travelling, and they are probably more robust in damp conditions.

Type of fridge or cooler depends on we're you are going to be going, for UK use we have an Aldi electric cooler works on 12v or Mains electric.

For our fortnight campings in the South of France during July we use a Waeco CF25 great compact fridge/freezer that works the same as a domestic fridge as it is compressor driven.

The Waeco runs on 12/24v or Mains electric and has served us well for the last 4 years.

Not only is it perfect in the tent, but handy enough to be used in the car for the 1000 mile 2 day journey to the campsite and also great for taking on days out.

As for noise it is virtually silent, the compressor only kicks in to keep the set temperature in check, and even then it's only a gently purr for a few moments and has never woken us, not even in the dead of night.

Having said that the Waeco CF do cost, although I was lucky enough to find a brand new boxed one for £150 definitely one of my best buys so far.

Hade I not come across the Waeco the choice would have been a Table Top fridge despite the size, Tesco were doing them for £70 at the end of 2011.

Another solution is to hire a fridge from the campsite most French campsites do this for about 5€ per day.

Thank you everybody for your comments which are greatly appreciated...

I think we'll have a go with 3 way option as I like the idea that we could also use it on days out in the car along with holidays and we may not always glamp in the future...

How did you get the quest for £135? I have been keeping an eye out on that website and must have missed that?

On the site at £169.99 and until Monday it's 20% of everything using 'ADVENT' code at the checkout. (If you already have a discount card, add another £5 if you do not).

Make sure, and get in writing that it is repairable and spare parts are available.

2I bought a sunncamp XC-42G - no spare parts are available and sunnflair did not want to know - the fridge died at the same time as the 12 month warranty
