Im relatively new to caravanning. We purchased our caravan in April 2011 and have used it about 4/5 times but absolutely love it. We went away in September and unfortunately the weather was truly against us in Wales. There were gusts of wind that were just horrendous and we ended up coming home 2 days early because we couldnt sleep. One of the things that I wanted to enquire about was storm straps for the awning. Are some better than others? We noticed that the awnings that stayed put were ones that had these straps on...our had to be taken down and the caravan next to us had the awning inside out over the top of it.
You can buy a storm strap set which goes over the top front of the awning and is held down either with strong steel pegs. The other type are for awnings that have side buckles ready to accept the straps. This type does not go over the top of the awning.
Cheers
------------- I have forgotten more than I now know
Before you peg your storm straps down just give them one turn so that the strap is twisted when pegged Down. If you do this it will stop the strap vibrating in the wind. That vibrating rattle all night can keep you awake!!!!
