I've just bought a grillogaz nouveau hob and grill off ebay. It looks well used as its rusty on the lid. I won it for 99p so not too fussed if it doesn't work, I haven't tried yet as it didn't come with a hose and regulator. I have one for the bbq, guess it works the same.
Would you just use it or ask a gas engineer to run a gas safety test on it first? If so where can I get one done?

I'd just pipe it up and turn it on,then light it at arms length or as far away from it as possible.We got a two ring calor gas cooker off my parents,circa 1960-ish,which just fits directlly onto the gas bottle.it seemed to work,but after a while one of the rings went out. A little bit of dismantling and cleaning of the valves and hey presto,old but good to go,(A bit like me really), Don't forget though a maximum of 1.5 mtrs.5 feet in old money for the gas pipe.

If it looks ok it probably is, not much to go wrong. As suggested, connect up to bottle, stand it outside somewhere & try it. I'm guessing this is how a 'gas engineer' would test it. The cooker in my 1985 caravan still works ok & I have a Campingaz single burner cartridge stove that I bought in the early 70s that still roars away no probs.
I have one that i bought new in the 60s and its still going strong infact it probably cooks better than a lot of the newer ones. Not really a lot to go wrong with them apart from blocked jets just check it burns with a blue flame not a yellow one, surface rust is par for the course im afraid
