hi all i was just wondering if anyone could tell me if there was any way i can charge my battery whilst Im towing my caravan or when im connected to an electrical hook up on a site or do i need to take a separate battery charger and just plug it into a mains socket in the van
As far as I know all caravans have a built in charger that charges the leisure battery when on a mains hook up. Just check the control panel to be sure that it is powered on.
I also think that when hooked up to the car and towing the car alternator will charge the leisure battery but not as quickly as a mains hook up.
The answer is "no" you do not need a separate battery charger.
------------- We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.
This is really a question for the caravan technical forum. Your caravan should have a built in charger unit which does its job when you are connected to an EHU. Depending on the setup the car will also charge the caravan battery when towing.

your marauder should have a built in charger unit somewhere near to the battery, should charge automatically when on ehu. assuming all circuit breakers are on.
does your towcar have the dual plugs at the towbar,?
the battery can be charged from the car, but the car has to have a split charge relay fitted, to charge only when engine is running.
the feed goes through the grey plug at the towbar

Older caravans do not always have chargers. If you are on ehu you can recharge with separate charger plugged into socket in caravan. As stated if caravan has twin leads plugged into twin sockets on your car then battery will charge while driving. All this assumes that everything mentioned is in working order.
some older caravans do not have a charger built in.you could have a split relay charger fitted to your car and carry the battery in the boot, secure that is.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
