Hello, can anyone help please?  although it was ok when i packed ot away last year my gas canister won't screw on to my Blackcat catalytic heater,a friend has suggested i may have over tightened the canister and that if i cleaned the thread this may do the trick, unfortunatly this isn't the case,it isn't the cannister as this screws on to my friends heater with no problem , has anyone any idea on how to solve my problem before i dispose of my heater (sensibly)    :(   regards Phil

No idea Phil, but I'll bump this post back up to the top for you. Hopefully someone who can help you will see it & advise you. These black (&  blue) -we've got both) cats are quite expensive, so I hope you don't end up having to throw it away

Welcome to the forum by the way

The same thing happened to mine.  I just presumed the thread had worn out.  Haven't thrown it out yet as I am a hoarder and thought someone might come up with a remedy eventually.

A heater is an essential piece of camping equipment all year round in this country isn't it?    Even if I don't use it, it's packed in the car just in case.

Phil, given the cost of these heaters, I'd try a new cartridge first. There may be some minute anomaly on the threads of heater and old cartridge which together, produces a fail, despite it screwing up OK to your mate's heater.

If it fits, result, and give your mate the old one. If it still won't work, he might be prepared to buy the new one, and you'll know you've tried everything reasonable, then go and buy an EHU and fan heater

Cheers Mike, i was a bit cheeky and unscrewed the valve from the Blackcat and took the valve to my local Go Oudoors,i tried several cannisters but all to no avail , so it looks doomed :(      Coleman have told me via email that you cannot replace the part and that it would have to be a new heater , thank you all for the advice it really has been appreciated   :))

Is the blackcat heater used to heat your tent ? Just thinking about all the warnings we get regarding carbon monoxide ! I think these were designed for fisherman who fished overnight in "bivvies" i.e. with a good amount of venterlation. May be talking out of my backside, but safety is so important. If i am wrong then i hope you get your problem sorted. regards Keith

Hi Keith, i did read up on these because there was a certain batch that were recalled some time back regarding a safety issue (mine not being one of them) i also read that this catalytic type of heater was meant to be safe as far as emisions go (although as with anything that ignites alongside a nylon/canvas tent you need to be extremely careful how you use them regarding fumes and flames) thanks you for taking the time to reply.
