Can anyone help us. Our melamine beakers which are only a month old and only been used on two 4 day trips in the caravan are badly stained with the t-bags we use (P G Tips or Tetley) and not what i call cheap tea. We have tried all sorts of cleaners even bleach to no success. Does anyone know of a solution.
Thanks
John
maybe fill them with hot water, pop a denture cleaning tablet into each one and leave them to soak overnight or for however long it takes to do the job...?...it's a trick i use that my gran taught me many years ago...it takes the tanin stains off our cups...
Just keep filling them with tea. That way you can't see the stain.
The denture tablets might well work. I just don't mind the marks personally but then I have 1 mug that lasts me all day - just fill it again when it's empty. Now that has a stain.

Remember a good wife always helps her husband with the dishes.
You could also try sterilising tablets that are used for babies bottles, that may help. I have used them before to remove stains but not on melamine so not sure if they will work as well. We've just bought some enamel mugs as they are larger and hold more tea lol

Yes they do work, and very well. One tablet in each mug and topped up with water, leave to soak for a while and stains will be gone. I found that was the only thing that worked with mine, even neat bleach wouldn't bring the stains. I don't use them now anyway, I much prefer proper mugs - tea just doesn't taste as good in melamine ones.

I'd dump the melamine ones. Mine went brittle after a time of using them with hot drinks and I got a nasty burn when the handle suddenly dropped off and landed a hot cup of liquid in my lap. Then I read on here that boiling water makes melamine degrade over time but what else do you make coffee with if not boiling water!
Use an ordinary mug and if you need to transport it carefully wrap it in a tea towel.
JML and others make a block of something like memory foam which you can cut into pieces - advertised as "cleans everything" which you wet and then use like an eraser.
Available from Wilkinsons and pound shops and works well on china cups in particular.
We got sick of cleaning our melamine mugs whilst away and now use regular ones - as I too thought tea and coffee tasted different from them.
Still like our melamine dinner plates and bowls though although our experiment with plastic cutlery led to a near riot one camp when OH couldn't cut his chicken !!!

We have the same problem with ours and put them in the dish washer when we got home. Big mistake, the red one is now pink
My old Mum used to use a scoop of Persil washing powder and boiling water in her mugs. I've always used home brew cleaner and sterilising solution. Chempro was excellent, but no longer available. I think I'm now using one from CWE.
Very weak bleach (Domestos = sodium hypochlorite) does it easily & cheaply.
We use bleach in a glass glass to occasionally clean tea stained stainless teaspoons.
