We currently are using campingaz single airbeds for our children aged 9 and 6, they have served a purpose and I picked them up cheaply.
As one of the airbeds is deflating with a mystery puncture and the other inflates to around 70% of its capacity, it will not be long before that one ends up in the bin and with a 2 week holiday in July, I want to prepare for the inevitable.
Both will need replacing and to be honest it will not be with another airbed, can anyone advise me if their children use sim’s and or camp beds.
Sims – Good brands, what depth (for children to be comfortable) , do they take a lot of car space, easily rolled back into the bags etc
Camp Bed pretty much the same questions on the sims.
I have a budget of £25-35 on each

Sims all the way, 3-5cm will be fine. They will just roll off camp beds like they no doubt did on the air beds. At least with sims they have a chance of rolling back on. One thing about sims is the kids will be able to walk around in the bedroom area.

Hi youlbury, I've just bought my sons (ages 12 &15) sims from Tesco.
I originally got them, as my eldest son had a couple of friends to sleep over, and i wasnt sure which one of our airbeds had a leak in it (and wasn't prepared to blow them all up to find out!)
They were 1/3 off, so I thought I would give them a go, as everyone on here raves about them.
My boys absolutely love them, so much so, that I will be buying a double for me and hubby asapI will probably go for a 5-7.5cm one for us though as we have more aches and pains than them.
I have the hi-gear 2.5cm sims on the cheap £9.99 camp bed from GoOutdoors for my daughters 11and 9 and they love them.
They also slept on just the sims last weekend for a garden camp and said they were fine, which they probably were for 1 night, but would probably get slightly thicker ones if not using camp beds.
It looks like sims, and for now we will try them with just sims without a camp bed I can see my 6 year old daughter rolling off in the middle of the night.
I managed to buy 2 x Outwell Relax 5cm Sims for £19.99 each inc P&P so pound for depth ratio the same as the Tesco and Hi Gear, so they should be comfortable for 2 weeks.

another vote for SIM's - we use them for all the kids, and have done since the youngest was 3. So far the standing on them doesn't seem a problem - like the air beds! Ours are only thin 2.5cm, and never had a child complain. I have used them for the odd night and thought they were fine.
But they do take up a lot of room. What I want is a SIM, of normal size, that packs up very very small!!!!!

Airic, they are amazing. After many years of throwing away money on airbeds, we finally saw the light too. We bought two Fat Airic's (discontinued, now replaced with the Dozzer I think) 5 years ago and they have been used many times, lent to drunk friends, kids jumping on them, etc, and they seem virtually bomb proof. One needed a repair after my cat clawed it, but that was 2 years ago and it's as good as new. A bit more expensive than some, but well worth it for a warm and comfy night. That said, the kids versions should be withing your budget - not sure if they are big enough for your kids mind. Only issue with sims is kids can tend roll off them while asleep.
We certainly will be looking at sims for ourselves in the future, we have an aerobed active dual chamber that is very comfortable however this failed within the guarantee period, aerobed replaced it, so we have a new one for this season, whether aerobed will replace the next one with a mystery leak...I doubt it.
Thanks I heard that alpkit have some decent sims, will take a look when we need to replace the aerobed.
