Hi all,
Iam a little concerned that I have to much weight in the trailer . I started with a normal 5 x 3 trailer with approximately 18 inch sides, but I have now extended it to 4 feet high with solid top , it certainly holds a lot more now but am I over loading it !!!
Can anybody give me advice please.

Firstly take it to a public weighbridge, and get both the weight of it empty and fully loaded.

If the Trailer is not home made, then the manufacturer will provide the empty weight of the trailer, this excludes all extras like jokey wheel and spare tyre etc, but that info is not to important if you can get it weighed.

Also the manufacturer will provide the fully loaded gross weight, this will be your most useful bit of information.

Next check your car handbook, to see what your car is permitted to tow for an un-braked trailer.

The UK max for un-braked towing is 750kg, so in theory with a light weight trailer you could have around 650kg of kit, which is a huge amount and probably about double what most folk take.

Thanks for advice, got in my mind that I would be travelling down the road and cause a terrible accident with to much weight.

I made a list of what I take and approx weights if I can't find exact weights of everything in the trailer, I think you will be surprised at how light everything is when loaded as camping gear tends to be bulky more so than heavy.

In our trailer with high cover (but sides built up with camping gear) we have 2x loungers either side, 2x tables either end 5x SIMs, 5x camp beds, many sleeping bags, bucket, carpet, foam floor mats, pillows & clothing total weight is only approx 120kg!

We have yet to go with the freezer which will go in the car where the cool box normally is so the coolbox will have to travel in the trailer but still plenty of weight space available

I did the same Tynxuk I too was surprised at how light everything is when loaded. Made a cage top extension for our Duuo which gave us double the carrying capacity 700+ litres only problem now is we will never use it again, we now have a Citroen Berlingo just remove the rear seats and it turns into a van. would anyone like a cage top for a Duuo trailer?

I've also got a running list with everything's weight!!! Thought I'd be the only one!

My trailer gross is 600kg but even with lid, extension sides, spare, jockey etc and all the kit it's less than 450kg.

Second the tip about the weigh bridge, will cost about a fiver.
