I've got an Alko jockey wheel with a pneumatic tyre which gives me grief. It doesn't like turning sharp angles at all. Finally it dropped down whilst in transit (my fault for not tightening the clamp enough) and wrecked it's axle. So I thought I'll replace it with a solid tyre jockey wheel which at the very least will fit into the recess it retracts into.
Alko make one with a built in nose weight gauge here:

it's the:
AL-KO Premium jockey wheel with nose weight indicator
Ref: JW695
My question is: as the jockey wheel is sited some distance behind the hitch, how accurate is this going to be? Or is it best to stick with an ordinary jockey wheel and a nose weight gauge / bathroom scales method?
Bathroom scales are not calibrated anyway, so it depends on how accurate you actually want to be

Not very accurate really.
My bathrooms scales agree with hospital scales so they are within lets say 2kg of correct.
So lets say 5kg tolerance nose weight error.
I'm towing with a 4x4 so I'm well within any nose weight on the hitch but I'd sill like to know the 'van is balanced which it's not now.
You could by a separate jokey wheel and calibrated nose weight gauge for less money than the all in one

The jockey wheel on our Combicamp was solid when we bought the unit, but we found that it made it hard to move the trailer tent on grass - it tended to dig in. So, we changed our solid wheel for a pneumatic tyre & we find it moves around brilliant on grass now. Obviously it's your choice, but think carefully before you go for a solid wheel.
