Hi all,

All being well we will be camping in Devon next week in our Vermont XLP. Last year we had real problems with rain and the sloping front - hopefully rain will be the last thing we see next week. But I wondered if anyone had tried to rig up an awning/shelter to the front so as to stop the rain coming in when the door is opened?

Also thanks to those who posted pictures of their trailer extensions - it inspired me to build my own and for the grand sum of £30 and a couple of hours last night, we now have a trailer larger than before.. Just need to paint to now!!

thanks in advance
Matt

We have an old VermontXL and bought a 5x5m tarp (Tarp 3) from Obelink which we attach to the tent side poles using Clingons and mini bungees. The front is held up using the king poles that come with the Vermont. A good solution in all except very windy conditions! Also works as a canopy/porch for our weekend tent - a Vango Peace 800 tepee.

Hi matt, I know your after a solution for the front but we use the outwell universal side extension on our xlp. It fits pretty well if you attach the guy lines that go over the tent to the top click ons on poles 1 and 4 and pull tight. There's a couple of pics of ours on the xlp tent review.

Thanks Michael, we did in fact already have the side awning (but that is also afflicted with the sloping front and ingressing rain) and in some ways I wish we'd gone for the extension, but we wanted the extra space for the kitchen which has worked really well for us.

As a last resort (and if we found a pitch to accommodate it!), I guess we could add the Montana 6p awning onto the side extension!!!

thanks again
Matt
