Hi there.

This is going to sound a ridiculous question, but having just purchased a powered cool box, i suppose i need to ask it!

When wrapping the box in the blankets, i presume you only wrap the box body (so you dont cover the vents in the lid?) but then wont heat escape through the lid?

as i say, daft but realistic question :)

Thanks

Jason

I seem to remember seeing large reflective silver cool bags for sale at a supermarket checkout, why not just drop a cool box into one of those. It would save a lot of faffing about with sellotape.

Hi Jason

Not such a silly question.

I suggest you make a flap to cover the lid  -  but when you use it connected to the power - you pull the flap back to uncover the vents and recover when you are finished.

It is worth noting that the cooling element on these electric coolboxes can only cool the outside air by 6 to 10degrees max.  So running your coolbox in the middle of the day when the air temperature might be 25 deg means that it is blowing air into your coolbox at 15 to 19 deg  - which probably means its warming up the contents!  But if you wait until the air cools down at night  -  say 15deg, then the coolbox will be blowing air in at 5 to 9 deg which is much better!

A couple of weekends ago I went away for 3 days in the heatwave  - I started with a coolbox full of frozen burgers, frozen sausages, some water bottles full of frozen water and chilled milk, cheese, butter, ham etc.  3 days later without using any electrical top-up, the remaining food was still fridge cold.  The key was to keep the lid closed and silver cover in place as much as possible.

I now only use the electrical top-up when the butter starts going soft!

Good luck.  ,

Richard
