Now I like to have the best and I would like to buy a new kettle. The one we use is one that was with the cookset that we purchased years back. It is going to be used on a Coleman 424 stove (the best IMO).
A far cheaper thin walled kettle will boil faster - the Le Creuset is, to say the least, a bit of a beast (not that the 424 would struggle!) A thick bottom with good even heat conductivity and retention is far more important with pans than with a kettle.
I think you could get something for a third of the price (or less) that will do the same job, quicker but might not look as nice.
On the other hand, it's a bloody nice kettle. If you like it and can afford it and want to spend your money on it, it would be an excellent choice!
Something like that is going to be heavy and probably a waste of money for camping.
We got a kettle from B&M for £2.99 its 2.5l and boils quickly, holds its heat well and is light. Ours is a metallic turquoise colour and probably looks better than the one above.
Areviews look good, but I would imagin that most people are using indoors.
we have a le creuset at home but apart from it's looks don't see the point of even having that at home. Oh and by the way it doesn't pour very well, not sure if the one with the integrated whistle is any better or whether like ours you need to let it off the boil before trying to pick it up.
A thick kettle that retains it's heat is only really any use on an aga where you leave it permenantly on the simmer ring then just switch it to the hot ring when you want to boil it quickly.
Thanks for the replies, was thinking that maybe I would leave it on the range at home then use it but I suppose the Vango one would suffice. I just get carried away with my 'I want this to last forever' policy. Was also thinking about the Vango Powerex although the capacity is smaller. The other day I was looking for plastic pint pots. I found a heavy high quality one that was 4 for 23 quid delivered. I refrained and got some cheaper, think I'm addicted to spending!
Just got mine out we actually have the 2litre, didn't realise there were two sizes.
Matt, you say your last forever policy, we have had the vango for about 5 years and it still looks brand new, gets used for an average of 4 weeks a year I would think, the handle, whistle etc is top quality, very nearly as good as the le creuset.
Love a description I found on a powerex, one of the notable features was "non-porous"
To be honest the powerex looks abit flimsy when compared to the other vango
