Get a small trailer like an erde 102 and tip it on its side and take wheels off if you have to then put on a little trolly to move down the side of you house.

A roofbox, and the two bars, will remove from the car, store in your shed or garage, and *generally* be a cheaper option than having a towbar fitted (assuming the car doesn't have one now) and buying a trailer.

On the other hand, *generally* a trailer will carry more and can be easier to load/unload than a roofbox. David's solution addresses the side access and if you have a towbar already fitted, that could be your best bet.

Is there any where else you could store a trailer? Friend's garage etc? Or could you consider using a caravan storage facility - we did that briefly when we didn't want the trailer tent we had at the time on the drive.

Have also got erde trailer, we have got no side or rear access so have to take it through the house only takes 5 minutes to take the sides & wheels off, then carry it through the house to the shed.

We still don't know if the car already has a towbar fitted.

That impacts on the financial aspect of the choice posed in the OP.

We also live in a terrace house so have to get our trailer through the back gate, as we bought it second hand the fact the original owner had added castors to the back of it so it can be put on end and wheeled through to go down the side of his own house was a big selling point for us.

I collected it with my brother and think I scared the man selling it a bit by having to lift it on end myself and hitch it while they watched before I bought it as it was originally bought to free up space in the car for my weekend camping with the children while hubby worked.

Trailer then. Greater capacity and easier to load and unload.
