We have just picked up a second hand combicool which apparently had only been used twice and looks new, we have had it on for 2hrs and you can feel the heat coming out the top but it is not making any noise and does not feel cold how long will it take and what usually tells you it is working?

Any advice on them would gratefully be received.

Thanks

Amy

they are heat exchange units just like a fridge, so the heat is expected.

they do take a while to get cool inside, Ideal for the surplus beer mountain I seem to accumulate!

I cant stand warm beer either Oscar, my friends think I am mad paying so much and taking a fridge camping but come the warm weather they will be begging for me to let them put their beer in it.  If I am feeling mean I may even charge them and then it could pay for itself...ha ha!

I know it should give out heat but how long for it to get cold??

They don`t make any noise so don`t worry about that. They don`t have pumps...the cooling chemicals just circulate on their own in some arcane way.

The place it will get cold first is the protruding bar along the back, at the left hand side. You can even make ice cubes here if you have the little metal tray provided when new. Check that it`s dead level as well, as this can affect the chemicals circulating.

I can`t recall exactly how long they take to cool, sorry, even though I`ve got one. But on full blast they can easily freeze the milk overnight.

If it's an absorption fridge it'll take about 24hrs to get to working temperature - we have a 3way one that we plug in the day before we go, keep it running on the car 12v and then plug into the site supply or run it on gas. It definitely needs the day before to cool down but can freeze stuff easily if it's not too warm outside.

Cheers

Steve

Hi Amy

We have had an excellent Combicool for about 2 years now ! It is a superb piece of kit and it should start cooling quite quickly, but if it has not been used for a while turn it upside down for a few minutes before you use it it and everything will be fine !!!

P.S.  it runs a lot colder on gas !!!
