Had an old style heavy blue and red airbed that I got from Argos for 10 years. Well I ripped it the other day so I am now looking for a new airbed.
I have slept on the more modern deeper airbeds, at friends, that seem to be popular today and every one has deflated on us to some degree during the night.
I have seen two that have caught my eye but I have no idea on the quality
I think you can toss a coin and get a good airbed for £20 now, in real terms and costs today can you push the boat out to £26.00 with inflation over 10 years.
I guess yours was a rubberised cotton version?
We have tried campingaz and aerobeds both end up punctured/mysterious leaks over 3 years I have spent over £100 and never found one that does not let us down.
However a lot of people rate/hate the Intex beds, here is an example a 2 in 1 look at this way if one goes down you still have one is reserve.
I have never yet found an airbed which doesn't leak. They will all deflate slightly overnight due to the temperature but when you end up with your bum on the floor you know it's more than that! I suspect it is the valves rather than the material.
I now use a campbed with a self inflating mat on top and not only is it warm and comfortable and doesn't deflate, but you can use it as a bench to sit on, very handy when putting your socks on in the mornings!
I sincerely hope this does not come across as rude/ignorant, or worse still, snobbish, but I look at it this way.....
£20... for a double..... (I'm guessing there's two of you... you used the word "us"?)
That's £10, per person.... and you want to get how many decent nights sleep out of it??
I know we all have budgets, I fully appreciate that, but you can't get a good nights sleep anywhere for a tenner apiece these days... not even for one night!
I can survive on Bread & Jam, and the odd cup of Bovril as a treat.
I can go days without water, and walk barefoot on the harshest of surfaces.
But God help anyone who get's in my way, if I don't get a good nights sleep!!!
And it's not just the budget, either.....
Have you considered sleeping on a small bag of air and foam, rather than just a big bag of air? Some say it's more comfortable. Many say it's definitely warmer, and sturdier too. And the one's I'm thinking of can even inflate themselves, whilst you sit and chill with a beer.... normally between 66.6% and 100%, depending on how firm you like it!
If that interests you, and you are not already aware of them, take a look at SIM's (Self Inflating Mats (Or Mattresses).
In fact, if you time it right, you may not even have to up your budget. Aldi occasionally have them in at a tenner each (for singles). They are 5cm thick, which admittedly seems naff... but you'd be (pleasantly) surprised!!
(To give you a perspective on thickness, the top of the range high spec ones are "only" 10cm thick!)
There's plenty on the market, at all budget levels, so surely worth a quick look?
And yes... I can recommend them... well, I can recommend the aforementioned Aldi ones (Brilliant VFM), and I can recommend the run of the mill average ones from GO, (which seem to be no longer on their web-site???), but were about £25 each (singles again).
I can't recommend the high end Exped Comfort 10cm ones just yet, as I have not had chance to try them out yet (Santa bought us one apiece!!), but I'm sure I will do, eventually, even if they prove a little OTT, price-wise!

Before anyone asks..... The Aldi ones, and indeed the GO mid range ones have been (or are about to be) donated to family/friends who have not yet had the pleasure of using SIM's.
The reason for buying the Exped's was not because the others needed replacing! They were far from damaged, and far from inadequate in any way... we just wanted to experience something from the top end of the market.... something we have never done before, in any walk of life!!

I didn't mention camp beds (which we also use) as I noted you are in a camper van, and presumed (rightly or wrongly) you wouldn't consider going down that route.... and whilst a SIM on a camp bed is sheer luxury (imo), they are designed to go on the floor, and serve their purpose fully, in such a situation.
A direct replacement (and improvement) on an air bed... some might say! :-)
Just adding this is a bargain double SIM 7.5 cm if you get your arm twisted on here...I wasn't convinced until I tried one.
This one is basically from Vango themselves, you will not beat this quality or price.
WE have had many a nights perfect sleep on the old £15 airbed. So a £20-£30 airbed will suffice for the 2 or maybe 3 nights a year we will use it as during the april-october months we sleep the van on friends drives.
WE can also still get and have had many a nice sleep in £10, £15, £20, £24 travelodge rooms around the UK as well as £20 and £29 premierinns so it can be done.
