Afternoon all, we have a 1994 Bailey Discovery SE Avalon and I would love a porch awning but having tried a traditional square NR one we found it was too long (or our awning rail height was too low), we then borrowed a more modern porch awning with the bendy poles and again this was too long and could not be pegged down with the walls vertical as they should be.

Can anyone recommend a porch awning which would fit or is known to fit vans with lower awning rail heights?

Or does anyone know the rail height for my van, sadly it's away in storage and not convenient to go and measure it at the moment

many thanks, Matt

You will really need to measure the height that you need.
Our Bailey is 92" to the awning rail and my porch awning is 91" at the wall, so I am hoping it will do, but I have not yet tried it as we have only just got the van.

I thought that might be the only answer, a trip to the storage it is then. Silly question maybe but I assume the height measurement I need is from the base of the tyre (i.e. ground level) vertically to the rail?

I only ask as my rail does slope a little towards the front of the van where it follows the roofline

This is a photo of my van from the side (not actually my van but the same model) and you can see that the roofline dips just to the left of the door which makes measuring the rail height a little tricky.

thanks in advance, Matt

Hi Matt, Take the height as being the highest point where porch awning is likely to sit.
Or better still, the highest and then lowest point and then work on an average.

The reason why I think my awning will do is because there is a 10" skirt around the base and this should compensate for any height difference.

I have a 1997 Bailey Ranger 470/4 which is probably fairly close to your van in height.
My porch awning is an Outdoor Revolution that I bought when I had my FC.

Apologies for the delayed reply but I've finally remembered to measure the max rail height if our caravan and it's 235cm. Does that help with my quest for a nice well fitting porch awning?

Thanks, Matt
