I thought the new footprint for UK services whilst tighter gave a stronger signal to all of the UK which in turn meant that the standard Sky 43cms dish would work in Scotland? If that is the case would not the Avtex also work?
On reflection, I would suspect that you are both probably riight,
This dish has been discussed before on another caravan forum, I tried to post a link to it but got locked out of this forum for my trouble.
Snipe claim the dish to be equivelant to a 65cm off-set dish but when I challenged them to estimate how far south it would pick up a decent signal they declined to answer!
Says it all to my way of thinking!
Vin Blanc
------------- Now retired from active caravanning. - really miss it!
Yep Vin Blanc, in the good old days before even Astra2D came on the scene, which must be over 10 years back, my Attisat FL500 Flat Plate Antenna would not work any further South than Lyon for the Sky/FTA channels, just as well that I had my trusty Steel is real 80cm Raven Dish with me, for our fortnight Campings at Camping du Pylon at Biot close to Antibes back in 2003.
Now the surface area of my Attisat Flatt Panel is greater than the Snipe, so I would guess the Snipe is rubbish outside of UK, for getting Astra2 stuff that is.
I have not done much research on the Snipe, but they quote the LNB Gain and not the Antenna Gain, how misleading is that, when it says a Gain of 50db.
In Dish terms that would equate to something like a 4m Dish!
I suppose it is too early to ask for recommendations for the best dish for France /Europe for the future. My existing Zone 2 Scottish mesh dish has done me well over the years but I suppose with the new sat in place I should be thinking about the future? This year we are headed for Portugal with only about 4/5 days in France on the way there and the same on the way back. I doubt I will change this trip as I don't hold out much hope for the journey when we head west on the Iberian Peninsula., but any recommendations for the next trip in the Autumn when we head for Italy (or will that be much the same)?
Maybe it is best to wait for reports back from the touring fraternity?

So I would imagine the Avtex Snipe will give 100% UK coverage.
Having said that, they may introduce an even tighter UK Spot Beam if Scotland gets it's independence lol.
OK so if they get independence, I will have to remember not to retreat there for Winter.
Yep, sure looks a neat piece of kit, just a pity that they have messed up the UK satellite stuff with a SpotBeam rendering the Snipe almost useless outside of the UK save Northern France maybe.
Can't comment on the Snipe but I have used a Zehnder Multimo at Durness near Cape Wrath in the very far north of Scotland and got excellent reception on Astra if it's any help??
Hi Gilburton.
Superb Dish the Zehnder Multimo, a like the design being a Prime Focus Antenna using the Cassegrain principle first invented by a French man back in the 17th Century for making optical telescopes more efficient.
History lesson over, so that little 40cm Dish in theory will work almost like a 60cm Dish.
Pity they stopped making the larger model, which at 57cm worked like an 80cm Dish allegedly.
If only the would make a 1m version, so that we could pick up Freesat down on the French Med.
Of course the Zehnder is not self seeking like what the Avtex Snipe is, but there again the Zehnder is £500 cheaper and will pick up just the same satellite as the Avtex Snipe, if you are any good at aligning a satellite dish that is.
