Were looking to buy a small 4 x 3 trailer for all our stuff i have found 2 for sale locally one has leaf spring suspension and constucted of timber the other doesnt have leafs and is galvanised what is the pros and cons for leaf spring?

Sounds like the galvanised one is more modern so I would go for that, you should be able to get spares for it if needed. The wooden trailer sounds ancient & possibly home made.
Firstly don't buy the 4x3 Trailer, as it is a commonly known fact that if you think you need a 4x3 your mind is realy saying 5x4.
This will be proven when you come to sell the 4x3 Trailer in a years time, in order to buy the larger Trailer you should have bought in the first place.
The problem then of course is that you will buy a 6x4 Trailer, for fear of buying yet another Trailer that will turn out to not be big enough.
Personally I would avoid a Spring Leaf and Timber Trailer, and go for the more modern type with embedded suspension packs and galvanised body and "A" Frame chassis.
It is more than likely that an old Timber Trailer will weigh more than a more modern Galvanised Trailer, and this will reduce your payload.
In UK the max for an unbraked Trailer is 750kg knock of the weight for the Trailer and fittings say 150kg which leaves 600kg for your camping kit, which is far more capacity than you are ever likely going to need.
Having said, it is always worth checking the specs for your car, it may be rated to only tow 500kg unbraked, which would reduce your kit load down to say 350kg for a Trailer weighing in empty at say 150kg.
The Anssems trailers are ideal for camping duties, any from there GT range, with there Aluminium bodies and flat hard top lids.

Yes you will need bigger. We, instead of getting a bigger one, got a hard top which means about 6 inches more of space at the top. Maybe this summer it will be a bigger one
