Hold it right there, Westy!!
That utility bar is similar, in that the claw will only hook just under the lip of the peg head! I had to get the grinder out to open up the slot, so it now goes straight through, around the diameter of the peg, completely under the head, so (a lot) less chance of slipping off.
One advantage is, it's flat, so more chance of staying in position, if you need to step back and take a running jump at it!!
There are other lengths to consider. Obviously, the longer they are, the more purchase you can get on them. I opted for this small one as it's ideal for the peg bag... and dirt cheap, of course!
Sorry, should have mentioned that about the claw from the start!
Oh pants! Thought I had had the answer! Haven't got a grinder handy, is there such a thing as an official rock peg remover I wonder?

Yes...another rock peg usually does the trick. I use an ordinary peg puller and so far have not managed to pull the handle off it. If you pull a rock peg out at the same angle it went in and give a little twist at the same time if it is sticking they usually come out ok. If you try using brute force then you will no doubt pull the head off both peg and puller.
