The only thing with a double bed is they do tend to have a bar in the middle of them. However, if you go for a SIM (self inflating mat) and camp bed combo, they should raise you to the height, or above, of the bar, so you will not be cut off from each other.
Camp beds tend to be higher and thus easier to get off/on. They are not filled with cold air, so are usually warmer than air beds. There is plenty of storage room underneath them.
Most people with camp beds use a SIM too to add an extra bit of comfort.
Personally I find the camp bed/SIM combo the most comfortable way to sleep.
I always used airbeds and never had a problem but I switched after my airbed developed a leak and went down at a festival and I spent 2 very uncomfortable nights sleeping on the ground!
Wish I had changed to camp beds years ago - quick and easy to erect, easier to get on and off, no lying on a slab of cold air, no risk of it deflating in the middle of the night, useful storage space underneath....
we have 2 fishing beds and although comfy they do take a bit of room up in the car.. if im solo camping in my small twent I take the camp bed in which you bend 3 steel rods into the frame and put a sim on top for a bit more comfort
We switched from airbeds to single camp beds+sims after our 2nd family trip away and much prefer the campeds. They feel warmer and breathe better.
We needed beds that packed up small so opted for same type as Stewey, singles with the wire legs. The ones we have are the Kampa Slumber Plus which when assembled are wider than usual at 77cm and so far performed well. The ones with wire legs are quite low so not much storage space underneath, but they are easier to fit in to smaller sleeping pods with sloping walls than the higher beds. We found SIMS made a noticable difference to comfort.

When we were younger double airbed on floor.(had to help OH get up)
Now a bit older we got Kampa self assembly camp beds and a double airbed on top for 2yrs (lump in middle and still had to help OH get up)
Now even older and not so flexible, a double pop up camp bed (posadas takes 10secs) with an Aerobed (controversial I know)dual compartment on top. I do not feel OH get up for the loo and it is as high as our double bed at home so he can now get up without any help from me yay.
Thick fleece blanket under the airbed and this year an edition to our sleeping set up an electric blanket as he now really feels the cold!
Only thing is you have to make sure your bedroom pod will take the extra height and size etc.
we have used both the camp beds and run of the mill airbeds, we decided to try an aero bed and WOW what a difference. total comfort and with the extra thickness of the aero we were warmer being further from the floor. make sure your room is big enough first though as they are big.
Carp Anglers bed with 6 adjustable legs and wide mud feet for me when I take the big tent..5mins adjusting the legs and you sleep level on any surface...Mud feet distributes the weight so no holes in g/sheet...
Backpacking..I'm on the ground with a bit of insulation and a SIM under me...Know which one I prefer...and it aint the ground SIM combo.... But needs must sometimes....

We started off with airbeds then as they burst replaced with campbeds. The pole along the edge can dig a little into your knee when laying on your side, but the addition of a memory foam topper or sim solves that. Did not bother with a double as we thought two singles gives more flexibility, for eg if one of us does not go.
I get a great nights rest, feel warm and cosy. Plus I hate getting off airbeds as they are just so low!
