Hi dee hi campers.

Just come back from a camping weekend in Wales (at the beautiful Heritage Coast Campsite) and had 2 more bloody airbeds going down! So that's it I am officially done with airbeds now forever more.

We are camping in France for 2 weeks in July with our 2 boys so desperate to find a great sleeping solution for us all.

What do you guys use for sleeping on? Are sim's the way to go? Is there another solution? Please help.

Thanks x

Two double outwell 5cm Sims for me and wife and two daughters. Very comfy but bulky.
I have a 3.5 multimat for when it all has to go in a rucksack. Packs up smaller than a karrimat and comfier.
We do put picnic blankets under the Sims in the sleeping pods and stick the outwells in double sleeping bag liners for warmer weather.
I have a very bad back and the Sims always give me a good night's rest. They insulate which is something airbeds do not.

I got two of the 'sleep in' beds from Decathlon earlier this year. There are a couple of different options, but i went for the one with the self inflating mat. The SIM and sleeping bag are one unit and that means when you turn around the sleeping bag doesn't get twisted around you. I've just returned from a weekends camp and used the sleep in bed on the ground and I was warm and comfy (I had an extra fleecy blanket just in case). However I normally take a steel framed camp bed from Argos and when I put the sleep in bed on top of this the result is the most comfortable of all the options (many) I have tried over the years.

Back in 2008 we got 2 ThermaRest DreamTime XL's that fasten together with there embedded straps, to make a large double bed.

Each July we go to the South East of France for our fortnight campings, and have to say that the DT's have been nothing short of sublime.

ThermaRest have now replaced the model with Neo-Air Dream, pretty much the same as the DT but they have improved the SiM of the 3 part system.

I am not sure how the DT's could be improved upon, unless it's replacement can give a smaller pack size, as they are still quite huge when packed.

I sleep on a Therm-a-rest 7.5cm Luxury Map XL on top of an Outwell Laguna Hills XL camp bed. Bought these after an airbed went down mid trip in Dec 2011.

Folding camp bed for me with my Raskelf Duvalay ensures I get a good nights sleep.
Middle son was camping in a small 3 man done tent at the weekend and used his new 10cm Ultrasport SIM and he said it was very comfortable and he slept really well.

We've used therm-a-rest XL's since 2003 and are still using them in our trailer. That time includes 18 months camping in Southern Africa where very few pitches are on grass!!

We bought 2 from Aldi, granted last year but are so comfy.  No going down in the middle of the night.

I slip mine into a slightly cut down old quilt cover so they don't move around.

aldi sims are great value, I put mine in a czech army bedroll really comfy, you might still get some at Aldiss. £13 for sim and £10 for bedroll really protects it. Military mart for bedroll
