Just packing car to go camping for a few days and sims have been inflated for couple of months so decided to put vacuum cleaner onto the nozzle and hey presto they went flat as a pancake and really easy to get back in their bags. Good idea I thought but how do I do the same when packing up, as much as the other half would love to take the Hoover camping, I dug out the old 12v pump for the air beds as it has suction as we'll then I cut down an electrical sleeve, also known as a " carrot" available for a couple of quid, and slip that onto the sim nozzle then put adaptor from pump into other end and within a minute the sims are sucked dry of all their air ready to pack away.
Not sure vacuuming a SIM is a good idea... but I stand to be corrected.
They are full of foamy bits, that expand with air when you open the valve. The recognised method of rolling them up, and squeezing the air out by hand, would by their very nature, leave those foamy bits with at least a little air still in them. By sucking the life out of them, I guess the SIM will still expand next time you set them up, but my guess is that they'll take a lot longer.
My main concern, although unfounded, and based entirely on inexperience and guesswork, is that doing this on a regular basis may eventually damage the natural structure of the foamy bits, and they'll start to be reluctant to expand!!
Just a thought, so don't be surprised to ultimately learn that I'm 100% wrong!
Oh, and another thing... as a point of reference for anyone not aware... SIMs are ideally stored inflated too, apparently. (That doesn't explain why there are millions on the store shelves, all rooled up, though)!
Must say, we do now leave ours laid out with the inlet valve open, when at home & not in use.
