Just a final update to this thread, I have just returned from the first week away with the Mobicool B40 and its exactly what I wanted. It kept things cool exactly the same as a fridge would on EHU, made very little noise apart from when the compressor came on when it was just a little humming noise until it clicked off (didnt disturb sleep or anything). I was able to put in a weeks worth of food for the two boys and I and some frozen things at the bottom which were still frozen until I took them out. It was heavy to lift, however, does have two handle grips which made it easier. The top is flat which is useful as we used it as an extra table surface, just to put a box of cutlery on, that sort of thing.

Thank you all so much for your advice, one very happy camper.

That's good to read Jayen, and as you have mentioned a compressor fridge does the business, electric coolers are fine, but they can never be a substitute for a fridge.

But there is a lot of confusion out there, with many folk thinking that a cooler is a fridge when it's not.

But I guess £40 v £140 is what makes most folk try a cooler in the hope that it will work like a fridge.

Well having spent the money on the cooler and then spending more money on food that spoilt, I felt that spending the extra on a proper piece of equipment would save me money in the long run. Having my son just recovering from both meningitis and campylobacter food poisoning, I couldnt take any chances.
