Hi,

I am looking to buy a set of pans for cooking and don't know what to buy. I was looking at a coleman set (red) but have read some bad reviews that have now put me off.

Has anyone got any advice?

We are a family of two adults and one small child, we already have cups so just really need pans to cook with.

Thanks in advance

I have this set Outwell Pan Set. It's non-stick and has 3 saucepans and 3 frying pans. The frying pans also double up as lids for the saucepans.
Everything fits into a mesh bag.

I have tried the non stick ones and was not happy with them. I recommend the MSR stainless steel pans, either the nesting alpine ones or the stowaway ones (handle folds over lid to lock it).

We just take a small non stick fry pan from home and our alpine 4 set and it's perfect!

If you go for the nesting ones, I recommend getting an extra handle from Go outdoors.

Hi,

I take a couple or normal pans along with seasoned steel skillet, a non-stick fry pan and a camping kettle. x4 in total.

We're car camping and a couple of pans aren't goign to make much difference to the pack space and "proper" pans are much nicer to use and less fiddly.

I do have the outwell nesting pans set, they live in the grage gathering dust.

All personal opinion, it's just what works for me....

P.

IMHO, MSR makes the best stainless steel cookware money can buy.

I have the full set of their Alpine Stowaway pots, and I can nest 2 of them together, 1 + 3, 2 + 4, where 1 is the smallest and 4 being the largest.

I also have one of their SS frying pan with removable handle, again, very well made, and did not buckle in high heat.

I have a Coleman 20cm non-stick frying pan with removable handle, plus a cheapy with folding handle, plus a non-stick griddle pan with folding handle by Sunncamp to complete my lot of utensils.

I have these pans too. I love them. They can be used on an induction hob too as they have a megnetic base.
These are so easy to clean too. The best camping pans I've used. Our set is the large set.

I used to have the Kampa Gastro Non-Stick Family Cook Set at £30. I thought it was fab. It all packed away into a bag and each pan has its own handle.

I've looked at the reviews on Amazon and can't understand the negative ones. The kettle is perfect IMO as it takes no time at all to boil and it doesn't have the dreaded whistle that wakes everyone else up. If you need more water, boil it up in a pan.

Think ours are the kampa feast.

They are large pan with lid
Medium pan with lid
Small pan with lid
Frying pan uses large pan lid.

All have folding handles. This is easy for 5 of us when they hit teenager years it should still be big enough but the non stick may have gone by then!

I'm cheap, I use a £7 set of pans from ikea! The handles unscrew so they more or less nest, and the bigger pans have a lid. I also use their 99p frying pan.

We had the red,Coleman set(Family cook-set?), very sturdy(and big!) but the coating on the inside on ours, bubbled and  lifted quite early on...

Do you really need  a "proper" stacking, lightweight camping set?

As  Madamzsazsa says, maybe just look at cheap(and more often than not, better quality),household stuff (ie. Ikea/*supermarket own brands etc)

(..*it's what we've used for years).
