Any jam will do..although lemon curd works well--doesnt stand out so much! You can apply it sneakily earlier on in the evening .Coat your lips and apply a few affectionate pecks to the forehead or cheek and then relax and watch the fun as they are chased around the campsite by swarms of nasty bitey things whilst you enjoy that glass of whatever you have in your hand!!!

Well I prefer Strawberry myself so think I will go with that :) and guess it will be a nice glass of wine in my hand hopefully sitting in the sunshine outside my tent :)

Just a little update after our camping trip last weekend using the Boots brand of battery operated insect repellent

We found it very effective and didnt encounter any bugs etc in our tent we also used the Jungle Formula spray and usually use the avon skin so soft but found the spray and the boots insect repellent unit was sufficient.

When I purchased the repellents at boots they were on offer as a buy one get one half price too.

Jungle Formula sprays are DEET based ... well documented re its toxins etc. I wouldn't recommend it, personally ...especially where kids are concerned.

I brought a can of Carrefour Anti Volants Mouches, Moustiques. Action Immediate.

Mosquitos got inside my flysheet all the time and they got inside the inner tent when I went in. It is very difficult to get to sleep in a tent buzzing with mosquitos, better to spray and kill them. I generally dislike killing things but bloodsuckers are an exception.

On Sunday night a mosquito got into my house in Kent, I awoke with 3 bites on my elbow on Monday morning grrrr. The nearby Isle of Grain used to be malarial, people used to die of the Ague there.

I really hate inhaling insects and wear a neoprene dust mask while cycling along the Thames and Medway Canal cycle path.
