Good afternoon all,

i have a brand new tent, cost me 2 arms and 2 legs and i need to know how often and when and how i should weatherproof it, as it is brand new i would expect it already has its first coat on it factory done ?

secondly which weatherproofing stuff do you recomend ?

Depends on the material. Some materials dont require any treatment at all.

Some need a good wetting for the fibres to swell and seal properly.

I'm guessing you've bought a synthetic tent, which shouldn't need re-proofing at all, when it's no longer waterproof it's time for a new tent.

If it's a canvas tent that shouldn't need proofing either but would need wetting through to swell the fibres to close any holes.

The tip for keeping a tent waterproof is to keep any kind of soap well away from it. I hate seeing kids with bubbles on a campsite.

It's a good idea to have a tube of seam sealant handy in case any seams leak on a new tent, and don't confuse condensation with leaking.

the tent is a Vango Inspire 600, its one of the new airbeam tents that came out this year

any reccomendations on the best seam sealent ?

A new synthetic tent needs no treatment.

A new polycotton/cotton tent will not harm if it's wetted on first pitch. But nature will do it anyway.

Whatever, test pitch a new tent.
