Gazebos are temporary garden structures and shouldn't be left unattended on a campsite, they're not built to the same weather standards as utility tents. They can't be guyed out properly either. Many campsites now ban gazebos and insist on proper made for camping use structures only. So don't waste your money on a gazebo that you can't use everywhere, get a day tent or utility tent.
Agree with Val.
Many sites won't accept gazebos as they have a nasty habit of becoming kites, even if you think you have guyed it down.
Invest in a utility tent - we have the Royal one which is fab for cooking in. I have never been charged extra for pitching it but some site might.
We have the sunncamp day tent, if you are not in a rush it is worth checking ebay I picked mine up for £30 in near new condition.
Others that are similar or rebadged are Kyham, Royal and Vango, I would go for steel poles.
All the above advice is great as usual forget Gazebos I have seen one fly across a field...not for the faint hearted.
A lot of sites that ban gazebos have allowed me the day tent on site if you explain to the owners that it is not a gazebo and a true camping structure.
------------- It's better to ask a silly question than make a silly mistake.
If you are looking for something to give you shade as well as somewhere to cook then you could think about an event shelter.
I have the 12 x 12 one as my hubby likes to have plenty of shade on holiday. I haven't got side panels with mine but they are available to buy to provide more shelter for cooking.
Can be guyed out and ours withstood one heck of a storm last year in France so exceptionally sturdy.
