Well you could buy one of the Dometic units, simply build it into a box and use a 4" Tube to send the Cool Air into the Tent, cost would be about £800
A cheaper alternative but bigger would be a free standing Air-Con unit, maybe about £300 or so.
Of course would have to be 240v mains electric.
We have been camping in the South East of France during July, when temps are pushing +40Deg C.
And the only time we felt the need for Air-Con was when we were in a static caravan.
And that was at night time as sleeping was almost impossible due to the heat.
Different story with a Tent, much more comfortable than a caravan, when the temps are high in the night.

There's lots of suggestions on Pinterest about making a DIY aircon for a tent, especially on American boards about camping.

Wet your bedsheet in cold water, wring it out, and you'll be plenty cool enough in bed underneath it as the water evaporates. Works a treat in the Med (I hate the humming of air con), should work in UK.
