You can always check if an LB is working by simply switching on the lights - most will be on 12v. The LB is only for lights and the water pump - your three pin plug items won't work until you're plugged into the EHU.
Onboard chargers seem to either work or not work. Best to charge with a smart charger once a month or so over the winter.
We have been using a starter battery in our caravan this year, and have had no problems whatsoever. We have only used sites with EHU though.
However, the battery I have been using is the starter battery off our boat, which we are selling in the spring, so it needs to go back on the boat next year and I will get a proper leisure battery for the caravan.
I indeed have a fairly new leisure battery. Put it on slow charge and the voltage meter reads 12.54V - so battery problem solved. Thanks for the comments.
My caravan is now in storage waiting for it to get above freezing - I have this itch in my feet to get out in her and on the road.The owners of the storage yard have suggested that we not leave things like batteries in the caravan while in storage. I read somewhere that a battery should not be stored sitting on concrete (like the concrete floor of my garage for instance). Any thoughts. Thanks
Apparently in the older days battery cases were made of a different material to modern battery's & leaving them on a concrete floor allowed them to slowly dissipate their charge ,probably to do with the cold as batteries in general do not operate as efficient in cold weather
so placing a battery on a wood or insulated floor helped keep out the cold & the battery does not drain as quick.
batteries kept in storage need to be boost charged at least once a month if they are not kept on a smart charger
