Anybody know whats best sort of freezer to use in an awning on mains elec.Ive looked at a currys mini freezer which has a 14 hr no electric if the electric goes off. This would be fine for travelling as i would never travel for that time anyway.Only problem says it should not be used outdoors or in shed,Why? Or should i save up for an expensive 2 way portable one.
The reason they say about not using it in a shed or whatever is that it will not work in the temperature gets too low ie like it is now round these parts. Hope that helps.
Not to be used outdoors probably because like many freezers they stop working when ambient temp goes much below 5 deg.
Ok for summertime and not a safety issue. We have a 3 way combi fridge box which keeps frozen stuff frozen for several days if loaded against the cold wall. We fill it with frozen food and take it to France - gradually defrosts but keeps us in food/ meat for a week at least before a major supermarket shop
we have a coolfun ck40 which I bought second hand and we put a digital thermometer in it during the summer holiday. I noticed it barely went below freezing so wouldn't trust ice cream or meat in it for too long but vegetables stayed frozen and would expect it to get colder in cooler temps.
We got a Mobicool C40 back in 2013 from Obelink in Holland, well worth the money at £139 inc delivery to UK.
We actually used the C40 as a temporary Freezer when we moved house in 2013, and it worked a treat for the month that we needed it.
Of course the main use for the C40 is as a regular Fridge for our fortnight campings down on the Cote d Azur during July, and needless to say it did the business last July.
You could run the C40 of 12v with a decent inverter if needed.
Of course a regular domestic Table Top Freezer would be a cheaper option at around £70, but having a specific portable unit is a better choice imho.
It's only the freezer part of a combined fridge freezer that won't work if it gets too cold in a garage or outside. A single freezer should work fine outside as long as you keep it dry.
Some fridge freezers don't work outside in winter because the thermostat is in the fridge part and if it's cold it never switches the compressor on.
