So last year our delightful 4 year old trashed their double air bed. We think he damaged the one way valve as there is no sign of a puncture.
Anyway, they stayed over at in laws during Christmas & slept on self inflating mats which they found comfortable so....we're looking at getting 2 self inflating mats & want to some expert advice from some seasoned campers 😃
IF you did want double air bed (as spare)- on offer at Aldi (see post called Aldi airbeds)
Can't recommend SIM but have just put on our (my) wish list as I looked at the sim post (Exped mega mat) and made the mistake of looking at the you tube video. I'm sure it won't be long until we have a problem with our airbed, then I'll go shopping.
I have Therm-a-rest 7.5cm Luxury Map XL, and it is very comfortable when used on its own and not on a camp bed, which was one of the reason why I got it.
So good that I bought another one to make a double if I were to camp with another person as I cannot fit 2 camp beds in the inner tent of my Hypercamp Escala 4.

We upgraded from a double airbed to 2 seperate single camping beds with 5cm SIMs on top. The SIMs are Higear Explorer available from Go Outdoors and currently on sale at £24.99 each. They are very comfy and great value for money. They will be very comfy used directly on theground too no doubt. A couple of tips you should try. When you inflate the SIM for the first time be patient as it takes a while to fully inflate. A few blows through tbe valve helps too. Then store somewherein fully inflated stateand only roll up when travelling.
