I'm sure lots of peeps will be along to advise, but in the meantime, try out a SIM if you can, if not in Aldi then maybe at a camping store. That way - like buying a bed mattress for home - you can feel what they are like, and how wide and long and deep you might need them. Too narrow and you'll probably fall off. It also depends on whether you are a side or back sleeper and how much padding you like under your hips and shoulders!

I had a 5cm SIM but that was too hard for me, and I also find the 10cm ones can be a bit unforgiving but I am rather a princess and the pea kind of girl...

I know that funds can dictate choice, but being comfy at night is a priority. Good thing about SIMs compared to airbeds is they are warmer.

Hope you find someone with more suggestions.

Best wishes

A lot of people use SIMs as matresses on top of their camp beds, I think the Aldi ones would be great for that.

For SIMs to use on the floor I have heard great things about the Outwell Dreamboat and Dreamcatcher but they are very expensive.

As Bridgeywidge suggests trying some out is your best bet, comfort is very important but also very subjective.

Mrs Rex has an extra large Vango SIM which she loves because of the extra width.

I'm not a small bloke and originally we had the Aldi 5cm SIM's which are ok for a long weekend but anything longer and they do become a bit unforgiving. My wife thinks they are fine but she is only 5ft 1 and weighs next to nothing but this year we bought a Vango Adventure DLX 5cm double SIM which we put over the top of the single Aldi ones, it makes all the difference being 10cm thick.

My OH and I went round a camping shop trying out the double sims. We looked ridiculous but it was worth the funny looks. We eventually bought a 10cm Vango Comfort Double. It is pricey but it's well worth it. We put a reflective blanket underneath and it is so toasty warm. My girls have got the Aldi 5cm ones and they are excellent value. My girls found them very comfortable.
