Hi just wondered if anyone could recommend me a sat kit for camping. Don't get me wrong I don't sit in my tent just watching TV but I am an early bird and usually up around 5.30 while the family sleep till 8ish so just wanting to watch news or something when we go down to Cornwall in July any help would be great in telling me what I need and best to buy as so many on the market
Opt for satellite (Freesat) so that you don't have to re-tune at each new location, but whatever system you decide on, get some cordless headphones to use with it.

Well if you don't require Sky there is loads choice, probably the best compact receiver is the Sab Titan Micro, not much bigger than a fasg packet and work as as PVR as well, alsdo can be run of 12v if required, it will pick up all the Freesat channels, but won't have the dedicated Freesat EPG, but that is not an issue.
Other than that the Humax Freesat receivers are very good, we have the Humax Foxsat HD 320gb PVR, although it is quite big and I am thinking of getting the Sab unit.
As for Dish, well for UK use I could go for small, the Zehnder Multimo at just 40cm or Arcon Sweety at 43cm would be ideal for call UK.
Also the SelfSat Flat antenna would be a good choice, we have the Attisat FL500 Flat Antenna for UK use, although the Attisat is quite hard to get hold of these days and when available is expensdive at around £150.
Of course you could just use a Sky mini-dish, it would do just the same job, but it is not really intended for mobile use.
Cheers will take a look at those obviously if I go for the small dish are these easy enough to align is they apps I can use to do this along with sat finder ect
In theory a smaller Dish is easiar to align than a larger Dish, as the smaller Dish will have a Wider Beam Width.
Also the Arcon and Zehnder models are of a Prime Focus (Cassegrain) design, so look directly at the satellite, the Flat Plate antennas work in much the same way.
Your regular Offset Dish, like the Sky Dish, look at the satellite from nan offset angle as the name implies.
A meter like the SatLink 6906 is very handy for setting up any Dish it's small 3.5" video screen, gives instant confirmation that you have found the correct satellite, also the SatLink is self powered unlike most cheapy Meters.
A "prime focus" (cassegrain) dish such as the "Arcon Sweety" has the advantage of looking directly at the satellite which makes it easier to see whether it is pointing into trees or hedges.
With an "Offset" type dish you can only guess (visually) where it is really pointing (elevation setting).
Either way, you will need to use some form of signal meter or "App" to align the dish.

I have one of the apps von my Tablet, very handy for confirming if clear line of sight is possible or not.
Add to that a Digital Angle finder and SatLink 6906 meter will make finding the satellite just so much easiar.
To make things even easiar when using an Offset Dish, calibrating the Dish before you go, by adding a metal plate that the Angle Finder can be placed on, is a good thing to do, use Astra2 as the reference point for the metal plate.
