Hi all , now in the second year of using the cool box , still runs as per and very pleased with it ...
Only one gripe and hoping someone will know how ...
The lid where the fan housing is situated , looking inside the vents , it looks very dusty , the Hoover will not get in at it , or cotton buds !
Any idea to get this open if it opens , looks like it's moulded plastic snapped together , not tried pulling it apart as dont want to break anything .. There is 2 screws on the inside nr the handle but I think they are for the spring housing for the handle .. Have scoured the net but nothing in regards to cleaning the fan parts ..
Any ideas ?
Lol , ours is not Minging lol but just got back from a week at Weymouth , was cleaning it out yesterday and looking at the mentioned fan parts and look pretty dirty or dusty , obviously can't soak that part as the electrics !!!
I'm so tempted to try pulling the lid apart as I do like a tinker lol but I know I'll end up breaking it
Be nice to know who makes these for halfords and contact them but more than likely in China ;-/
I will keep you posted if I find a way round it ...
I know it is an old thread, but has anyone solved the problem. Ours is 3 years old and the lid is minging, so if you have solved the problem please let us know.
will one of them computer air spray cans clean it. Dont know what theyre called. its a aerosol can with a straw you use to clean computers. Maybe not powerful enough though.
Hi,
I made a fitting for the end of our vac hose with small plastic tubing that fits through the vents (like in the dentists).
It is too small to take some of the gunge up the tube but does hold it on the end of the pipe enough to pull it back through the vents.
Took a while but got it relatively dust free.
Regards,
Greg
We bought some pipe cleaning brushes, like mini bottle brushes, from a pound shop in Bridlington called Goodwins l think, we use them for cleaning inside the dusty parts of our central heating radiators where the hoover will not reach.
They had three different lengths and sizes on a card, none of them thicker than a drinking straw. We sometimes wrap a strip of wet wipe around the tip and selotape it to the handle to give a wash rather than a dust to the area we are trying to clean, and it works well.
I imagin that the old fashioned tobacco pipe cleaners would also work well if you could find some, they are thin twisted fibres with a wire core made for cleaning out the mouthpiece hole in smokers pipes, and can be bent into different shapes easily to fit inside.

If you carefully remove the foam seal from the lid there are hidden screws that hold the two peices of the lid together, it then just comes apart (no fiddly little snap together clips). Be carful when sepperating the two haves there is wiring connecting the two together, but there is enough slack to be able to clean the inside.
I have just done mine, and as above reply, you have to remove the foam seals...on the 40l box there are 17 screws in total to remove,15 of them are hidden beneath the foam
Found a solution without opening and unscrewing!
Wet a piece of cleaning cloth and with a knife stick the cloth in between the gaps. Keep using the knife to clean the area the remove the cloth. Job done !

its all very well cleaning the fan blades, (i do mine every couple of years) its not a halfords one though, but you also need to lubricate the motor bearings with some light machine oil as well, this will stop it making a noise through the night, yes you need to dismantle it to do this, as you need to clear out the alloy fins, that act as the cooling ducts
