Hi, I was trying to find a thread from a couple of weeks ago mentioning heating a caravan; without success.
We are away next weekend and I was thinking about getting a small oil filled radiator to take the chill off at night. We do have air blown heating but is a bit temperamental and also a halogen heater but don't like the idea of that being unattended incase our 3 year old gets out of bed.
Does anyone use a mini radiator in a caravan and finds it suitable for just taking that chill off and makes it a bit more comfortable at night?
Thanks

We have been using oil filled radiator in our folding camper for 5 years now and find it great for leaving on overnight to keep off the chill.
The inbuilt blown air heating is too noisy to keep on at night, but OK for a quick burst of heat.

Thanks, that is what I was hoping. My husband hates getting a cold head at night and sets him off sneezing and my son coughing. Not always compatible with a good night's sleep!

We use an oil filled radiator in our campervan when om hook up.

We leave it on low all night to keep the chill off so recommend you get one with a thermostat to enable you to do this. It's totally silent so does not disturb sleep but does get hot so I would make sure you place it somewhere safe where there is no danger of it being knocked over or walked into.

I've read of some people not liking them due to the danger of leaks but we've been using one successfully for over 15 years. It was not the cheapest but it seems as with everything you get what you pay for.

We use a small oil filled radiator when we are on hook up - doesnt use a great deal of electricity when set on low - ours also has an 'anti-tilt' sensor, so if you do happen to blunder into it in the night it will switch off until you set it straight again:)
Also if you have an older van with a gas fire it means you dont have to have the gas fire on overnight.

The Halogen heater lights up and that would keep me awake. A fan heater is noisy, yes you can set it on a thermostat so it turns itself on and off but when it comes on it can sometimes wake you. So oil filled is the way to go.

Used one for years in different vans the silent heater I found that it did not seem to dry the van out as much as the usual heating methods.( might just be me).
Did hear it click on and off now and again but more silent than gas coming on but if opposite end of van than beds not heard.
Tried halogen but got rid after one night like trying to sleep with light on
Found 1.5 kw plenty set on position 4 on and off at 69/70% but always had Heki2 set on lowest opening..
OH use to flick up when getting up for a tinkle but extra heat woke me up so while she was snoring I got up for tinkle and turned back to 4
This was usually in a6/8 metre internal van.
