All,
Does anyone own or is able to comment on the MD300 900 litre roof box from a company called Ultraplast.

Helluva size roofbox!

Looks to be well made and aerodynamic, my only concern would be the risk of making the vehicle unstable through the weight of gear.

Camping Gear expands so as to fill the space available for its transportation.

Plenty of camping kit is light weight but bulky, so I don't see an issue so long as you keep within the spec for the car.

You have got to get one of those stainless and let's us know what it's like, it certainley makes my 380lt Kamie Delphin look tiny, and only £25 more!

Biggest problem I have with the Kamie is getting the dam thing shut, as I pack it to full capacity, an extra 520lt would not go amiss!

How much weight can your car carry on the roof? That box weighs 33 kg, a pair of roof bars is probably another 5-10 kg, if the max roof load is 50 kg you wouldn't be able to put much in the box.

We have this one, it's huge an older model, but it's fine huge box not as aerodynamic as the new ones, but it holds loads, it comes right up to the middle of the front window, ignore the old boy at the front lol

I like the look of this. We have run out of space in our Volvo V50 with a 450L top box. I'm toying with various ideas (or combinations of):

Tow bar & trailer
Tow bar & tow bar bike mount
Bigger top box
Bigger car
Etc

But given I might only keep the car for another 12/24 months I don't really want to spend £300 on a tow bar.

My main concern is around the weight on the roof as mentioned. My Volvo is rated as 75kg roof weight which I'm probably already over.

I can't think of the big but light items I take camping - well, not an additional 450 litres of them....

I might keep my eyes on eBay over winter!

My Octavia estate can take 75kgs on the rails,
I'm guessing my box and roof rack come to about 15ish KGS leaving me with 60kgs.
In the 550 litre box I have 4 camping chairs, 4 sleeping bags(2 are very bulky), 4 sims, 2 pillows, ehu bag and a few other small bags of bits n pieces. Its full to the brim at that and I'm guessing below the weight limits of the roof as a lot of it is bulky but light.
I picked it up 2nd hand for €60 which was a bargain. I'd be lost without it. My boot is approx 580litres so its effectively a 2nd estate boot up top.

I'm seriously tempted by the MD20, the 600L version which costs around £250 delivered.

The 900L version is super massive, the 600L seems a bit more sensible and will give me an extra 150L over my current set up, which isn't to be sniffed at.
