I am sure this topic has been discussed before, but basically is there any decent option of solar powered camping fridge?
Or is the required power simply too high...
In regards 3 way fridges... I am assuming when using the gas option its best kept outside the tent?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
If you have a vehicle, then have a look at the Mobicool FR40, about half the price of the Waeco equivalent but does the same job, think VW vs Skoda.
The FR40 has battery protection, so there is no danger of not bring able to start the vehicle.
You could run the FR40 of a leisure battery, although I only got about 3 days when using my Waeco CF25 doing this.
A 3 way fridge could be your best solution, although will not work as well as a compressor fridge, of course it all depends on we're you are going, a compressor fridge could be considered over kill for uk use, but essential for Southern Europe during the summer.

i thought mobicool was a waeco model???
i wouldnt suggest running a 12v fridge from a parked car, unless you have jump leads nearby!
as above 3 way from gas is the way forward, our old electrolux (now dometic/waeco) normally just gets tucked under a table outside, or under our TT and is still going strong 15+ years later....
ive looked into the solar/ portable leisure battery option but its not really viable without throwing around 250£ at a panel and battery.
The motorhomes we hired in Australia had Waeco 12v compresser fridges. The van had a leisure battery and solar panel. We had a couple of nights without ehu and it was fine.
Obviously the battery is charged when on a hookup or the engine is running. You do get lots of sunshine!
Ehu was pretty essential for aircon!
I believe those fridges can be obtained here, not cheaply!
They are very efficient.

Yep phathamster, Waeco and Dometic are brands from the Dometic stable.
Had the Mobicool FR40 been around back in 2008 I would have bought one, as it turned out I got a brand new Waeco CF25 for £150 a very lucky find at the time, for the price.
The Waeco units are brilliant although a little over engineered for basic camping use, which makes the Mobicool units ideally suited for campers.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
