We need to purchase a mains operated awning light to use in a full awning but unsure which one to buy. Two that I have found that will possibly be okay are the 'Kampa' and the 'Quest' awning lights both with 6 metre cable length and can be either attached onto the poles or hung up.
Can anyone offer any advice please regarding these specific awning lights or suggest anything better from your own experience?
I have used the Quest awning light and found it to be pretty good also it uses LED's so it can take a knock or two.
It was bright came with a good length of cable.
I think it looks sleek the Kampa looks a little industrial to me.
I have now fitted two extra awning lights same as the original ones so I dont use the quest but it was good when I did for about a year.
You could go DIY, quite simple to make, components list below.
BulkHead Lantern with Polycarbonate lense.
105watt (150watt in old money) Halogen BC bulb.
7m two core rubber cable.
13amp Plug.
Inline Rotary Dimmer unit.
Two pole inline 6amp rocker switch.
Cable entry gland.
2 X 22mm plastic pipe clips (or clips to suit your poles)
SS "D" clips x 2 ( so that lantern can be strung up if required)
I made the lamp as there was nothing on the market that could come close, the glow is superb almost old school parrafin lamp esque, and can be set from a night light glow, to full on brightness and anything in between.
Cost was about £20 all in.
The lamp works so well that I made 3 of them in total, one for the outside porch under the sun canopy, one for the main living area of the tent.
The third one is for in the kitchen tent, no dimmer on that one, just a 70watt halogen bulb.
Thanks for the replies but I don't really want to do any DIY, I just want to purchase an awning light that I can just plug in and use straight away.
I agree with you GERONA that the Quest light does look a little more attractive than the Kampa light which visually does look a little industrial although it wouldn't deter me from buying it if it was the brighter of the two.
I will wait to see if I receive any more replies first but if not I may just wait till after the Easter holiday and settle for the Quest awning light.
I don't want a rechargable light thanks especially something that long anyway. I want a small awning light which that packs away easily preferably with pole clips as shown in the two links I provided. If you read the title I specifically asked for a 240 volt mains plug in light.
No more replies so decided to take the advice of GERONA (second post) and decided to purchase the Quest awning light as there was no feedback on the Kampa light even though the same bulk head light is branded by other leading names as well. Thanks to all who answered.
Much appreciation for your reply GERONA and for the good feedback I was looking for on this product. I'm sure we will be happy with it and now feel confident that the light will be worth the investment as quite often you can buy something only to find out afterwards that it wasn't that good.
