The fridge freezer is fitted in our 2 year old Lunar Delta TS purchased from Campbell's caravans Preston brand new in April 2015.
The caravan has since had 2 Main agent services and I have reported the fridge as not performing to its optimum on both service occasions.
The dealers seem to think that it's working fine - I beg to differ!
It's latest service was carried out at Campbell's Blackburn who assured me that the fridge was performing as it should. Not fully convinced of this we went out and purchased fridge and freezer thermometers. The fridge was on mains hook up 3 days prior to our departure for our main summer holiday this year. On our arrival at site we again were on mains hook up. After a couple of days we noticed the food stuff in our fridge had perished (milk, chicken fillets had to be thrown)!
We then gave up attempting to store food and merely used it for drinks! If we made ice it would achieve this for us eventually. However, if we purchased a box of Magnum ice lollies or ice cream they melted - not good!
We noticed that the fridge temperature never got lower than 10 degrees? However we ran the fridge whether on gas, mains, high setting or low setting we couldn't get the fridge to improve its performance.
Has anyone encountered similar problems and if so how did they resolve it?
All feed back appreciated
Cheers Grampian91.
Caravan always level - the misses is paranoid that we have it level.
The fridge temperature readings we took were always in the morning which gave the fridge maximum time to cool through the night.
It may have sounded a daft question but sometimes an awning can restrict the flow of air to the fridge vents (if the fridge is on the same side as the main entrance door) which can sometimes cause the fridge not to perform effectively especially in hot weather temperatures.
That's elimated that one anyway.
I haven't and I think you will find that the majority of people just place their hand in the freezer compartment to test for coldness which is a sure indication that the fridge is working properly.
I stick an icecube tray in the freezer and its always frozen.
I do know my fridge is not totally level with the worktop surface above it though. And the front centre cupboards top surface is not level to that either.
When levelling i need to check in about 20 places and compromise :)
I did wonder if all vans are liek this or just Avnodales or maybe just mine?
Mind you everyone tells me its a 1992 van because its Cris registered, But it isnt its a 1991.
All I seem to have is a Dometic cupboard with a light!! It certainly doesn't do what a fridge should, poor poor performance and poor poor after sales service.
I am now pinning my hopes on local Dometic engineer who has all the history and information to hand. He will submit a claim to Dometic - watch this space?
Ours won't keep ice cream very well. If it's at the back virtually stuck on the fins then OK but it's not very good. It also seems to ice up instantly (door shuts properly) and the fridge fins don't frost any more, I've given up with it, tried everything, we even had a new plant unit fitted under warranty.
It won't make any difference if it's on high or low because the stat never breaks! The heater/burner is on 24 hours a day anyway.
I've been in the refrigeration industry for 22 years and worked on every type of cooling and heating device imaginable, from Co-op supermarkets, big coldstores, VRV air conditioners, food factories, manufacturing process chillers... but I'm completely stuffed with this toytown 'fridge' in our van, it's acting like the system is blocked or short of refrigerant but these absorption 'fridges' cannot be worked on, there's no compressor or valve or capillary or gauge access point.
Absorption systems don't exist outside the caravan world THANK GOD.
They are just crap and are only fitted because they will run on gas. But now solar power is getting better and cheaper perhaps they'll start fitting proper compressor fridges.
