We're off to a site with no EHU next month so I'll be needing a lantern for the evenings. Can anyone recommend a decent one that doesn't cost the earth? Thanks.

I've been looking at this one but worried it might not cast much light.

I don't think the lamp you have linked to will give off a lot of light. I think it has the old type 12 LED bulbs which are not very brilliant.

I have the 300 Lumen version of this lamp and it gives out a fantastic light. Water resistant too so can be used outside the tent if required. I don't know what the 1000 Lumen one is like but it must be fantastic. I believe 1000 Lumen equates to about 83 watts in old money.

Not rechargeable but the 3 x D-cell batteries last ages.

Thanks Bob. How long do a set of batteries last in yours?

We use a couple of Outwell 400LX lanterns that run of 6 "D" (LR20) cells each.

I got the "D" NiMh rechargeable s from Lidl/Aldi at £1.50 each, 4500mah and they run the lantern for ages.

The latest version from Outwell is the Carnelian at 600 Lumens, for around £25 plus batteries.

Probably the best rechargeable lantern around at the moment is the Streamlight Super Siege at 1,100 lumens, powered by an embedded lithium ion battery pack, so run time will be good and long lasting.

I don't know...haven't had to change them yet

I bought two of them some time ago for power cuts at home and also for the tent. I think I have used one of them camping for about 4 nights I suppose. Probably used them for a couple of hours a night, so about 8 hours so far and no sign of them getting dimmer.

I bought this 300 lumen lantern from Asda about a year and a half ago for £10and it has been absolutely brilliant. Everything else I saw prior to this was at least £20. 3 large batteries (d size I think) are still going from when I bought it so I've easily done 8 nights with it. It did say how many hours it lasts on the box but I can't remember the figure although it was a large number.
