Ugh. I bought a universal roof rack. I have a merc coupe. The rear bar was relatively easy to secure - I've fixed it into the allocated gaps and it doesn't budge if you give it a good wiggle.
Front one has been more of a challenge. When the doors are open, there is some movement. When the doors are closed, it's as tight as a tight thing that doesn't budge. This is ok isn't it? I'm not planning v to go anywhere with open doors.....
What make rack is it, I got the Mont Blanc Classic for the VW Golf mk6, then when the mk7 arrived it was just a case of buying the relevant feet fittings, £15 for the kit, original set up was just shy of £100.
The Mont Blanc is a solid fit when on, but I do wish they would come up with a better locating system on modern cars, as current set ups don't inspire confidence, like what the old Skool gutter mount racks used to,
A car with roof rails seems to be the best option these days, although I don't get the choice being a company car driver, in a stupidly rigid scheme.
When I say 'move'. It doesn't rattle or have any loose parts. But the assembly will slide forward if pushed. Possibly due to the change in shape of the roof above the door?
Hi again..
But when tightened, it shouldn't move out of position at all.
..and if it "slides forwards" when pushed(due to the change in roof shape?), then it can possibly do the same under braking..
..it may well be that, as it doesn't move now, it just needed re-positioning, prior to tightening?....
If unsure, just drill a few holes down through the roof..a bit of silicon and you're sorted..
...don't leave the bolts long though, as they may stick in the top of your head..
At least you are taking the time and effort to double check though. .
Some of the lashed together camping-loads/trailers you see thrashing down the motorway come a Bank Holiday makes me cringe..
