I've recently purchased one of the 'old school' canvas type Outwell box airbeds after getting sick of all my other airbeds popping. It does feel really heavy duty.
Does anyone else own one of these airbeds and struggle to inflate/deflate it? I nearly did my back in using a hand pump because it felt so difficult pushing the air in... almost like the valve isn't fully opened. It's one of those with a single, small hole (slightly thinner than a biro) with a plastic bung.
And then similarly, deflating it took ages. In fact, as I write this it still hasn't gone down! If we put all our weight on it, the valve let's a trickle of air out. Am I missing something here or is all this by design?

We used these when we first camped, yes very comfy, but like you struggled deflating. didn't take them again
Ok, another opinion... how about the electric airbed pumps... a bit noisy but stops the 'asthmatic making love' sound AND, you can deflate by flipping the switch to output not input of air.
They're still useful bits of kit provided they're insulated well. And pack small.

We use a battery powered pump to pump up the airbed. It uses D batteries which we recharge before we go.
On deflating to go home, we let the air out then use the pump (on 'air out' not 'air in'!!) to remove the last bits of air. Funnily enough it folds up really well when all the air is out. We can just fold and roll but the deflating using the pump removes more air for a smaller packed airbed.
