Having been through various stages of cooking set ups (Trangia, two ring gas, Charcoal BBQ, Cadac ... and now, Griddle plate) ...
We find that our Griddle plate has totally taken over from the Cadac, which we previously raved about.
The Cadac we have provides a considerable variety of cooking surfaces, though we gradually came down to almost 100% use of the paella pan ... but, washing up, assembly, disassembly and gas, was all a bit of a fiddle.
Two years ago, in Spain, we saw a griddle plate in a large supermarket ... got it, and, now, use nothing else apart from support from the caravan's gas rings if we need to boil aything ... our the odd fry ...
The Griddle plate is so simple to use and clean (completely wet proof for washing) and easy to pack/set up ... in and out of its box in twenty seconds.
All sorts of meats (a la plancha), and fish, and loads of veg eg peppers, aubergines, courgettes etc ...
That and the Slow Cooker have now taken over ...
And ... it all comes courtesy of the ehu hook-up, so no gas cost, or running out at inopportune moments!
Bye-bye Cadac, which becomes back-up mode for home BBQ trolley.
We find that a griddle is best too and agree with the comments regarding easy to clean, the courtesy of electric hook up and convenience but ours is the round version also made by Quest.
The Cadac Carri Chef was great at the time but we ended up using just the skottel with liner... good for cooking large quantities of food but a faff to assemble/disassemble and a pain to clean (hence the liner).
The Cobb was great at the time but a pain to clean.
The Safari Chef wasn't a success at all (cut hand on it and a pain to clean).
We now use a simple non-stick griddle pan with an induction hob (or suitcase stove when non-EHU, together with a Remoska (wonderful!). Super-quick to set up and pack-down, super-easy and efficient to use, super-easy and quick to clean.
It takes time (and money) but we all get to what kit best suits us, in the end!
I'm fairly new to camping and currently use 2 portable gas stoves which use canisters for cooking. Whilst we find these ok they are not ideal. Are the plates ok to use with electric hook ups?

Absolutely ....
You need to check the plate rating with the campsite ehu rating,
Most continental sites are 10 amp ... so a 2K plate is fine, ours is a 2.5K plate and has never blown a fuse yet!
Have had one from Lidl for several years now - very easy to use. My plate does not come off for cleaning, so I heat it up again and wipe it down with with a damp cloth whilst it’s hot.
Also love the halogen oven for evening meals - put a spatchcock chicken in, set the time and we go for a walk whilst it cooks. This weekend had crispy duck with pancakes - yummy!
Are these just for outside use? we only ever bbq outside and that is charcoal. Going to Scotland (mainly) on Sunday for our next trip so unless we are lucky, not much outside cooking.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
