Hi we are looking to buy our first sim to replace our simple Coleman comfort and are thinking about the Vango comfort 10. Do they cope with being stood on? Just that being so low to the ground I can see my 6yr old walking over it. We also might get two to make one large family bed area in the sleeping pod for the three of us which would leave no floor space for standing up. So to get in and out of bed we’d be standing on it. Do they burst or get leaks when under such pressure? Many thanks for any advice on another sim question.
From our experience, having the Exped Comfort 10 SIM's, the first thing you start to realise with experience, is that a fully inflated SIM is neither required nor advisable.
The recommendation is to inflate to a point that when the user/sleeper gets on, "on all fours" (literally... 2 x knees + 2 x elbows as the only four contact points!) there is (just) enough inflated mat to avoid contact with the floor. This ensures that whenever rolling around/fidgeting in the night, putting such pressure on elbows etc, the sleeper never feels the floor.
Over-inflate, and it is somewhat uncomfortable. I can vouch for that personally... although I didn't believe such advice at first!
With that in mind, as the SIM is therefore quite "squashy", it is more than safe enough to walk/stand on. I have done it regularly on ours, to fit lights over the bed area, and to tie on our internal dividing curtains (We don't have an in-built bedroom in our tent.)
I have stood on our SIMS both on the floor, and laid on a camp bed, without problems. (I'm a 14 stone adult male).
Of course, it is preferable to be sober... ish! Depending on the amount of inflation, they can prove a little wobbly to stand on!
LOL!
I would guess there is more chance of young 'un wobbling/falling over, than causing any damage to the SIM. At least it's a soft landing! :-)
Having said that, I wouldn't advise encouraging young 'un to use it as an indoor trampoline!
I can only speak for the aforementioned SIM, of course, but I doubt it would be any different for other reputable brands?
Brilliant - thanks for the reassurance everyone - and for the helpful tips on how to inflate a sim. I’ve decided to order two kampa wideboys that I will connect together with the exped universal coupler. At least then if one does get damaged we don’t need to replace the whole lot. Getting excited for the summer holidays now!
