having had 2 £20 airbags develop the skill on not holding air, I'm looking for recommendations for something better quality.   these came from Aldi and Asda. as I'll be in a car weight of airbed isn't a problem but we can't do the very thin camping mats

If you can fit a queen size one in and have electric hookup have you seen the new ones that have three setting on for soft, medium and hard … you leave them plugged into the mains and if they detect a slight deflation they automatically put more air into it.

Tesco's high rise air beds with integral pump seem to be fine. I have had a double and a single and both were fine. I swapped the double for a single because I camp solo and the double was taking up too much room.

They pump up in less than 3 minutes and can be deflated using the internal pump as well. Get yourself an extension lead and then you can leave it plugged in and add a little air when the temperatures are colder and remove some in the heat of the day to prevent stress on the seams.

They have a separate valve as well, if you want to pump them up manually.

They are quite often on special offer and relatively cheap.

Best one we had was an intex, stayed up for a week and was very comfortable. Can't remember where I bought it from ... wasn't overpriced though.

We bought 2 Intex single mattresses from Amazon. We hold them together with a super king fitted sheet. It works brilliantly and the air stays in for ages. They cost a bit more but definitely worth it.

Does that mean a noisy electric pump could come on in the middle of the night though? Don't think I'd be very impressed if my neighbours had one!

We had a Coleman queen size double height airbed for many years and it was great. Comfortable and firm enough to sit on to put your socks on.

It held pressure really well, needing small top-ups every few days.

Unfortunately it failed last year, requiring topping up every day. However we were so impressed we replaced it with the same model.

No. There's two pumps. The main inflation pump is noisy but the top up pump is very quiet. If you sleep at the opposite end to the pump you can't even hear it when you're in bed.
