Hello everyone,
we were away in our caravan for 10 nights not long ago,and after being on charge on an electric hook-up for duration, when I disconnected from the mains supply the battery was flat.It would not even throw the voltage meter needle over.Decision made, next season,a new leisure battery. This is where you good folks come in,the one taken off the van was a 110Ah,I was going to replace it with the same AH.but I would like your recommendations for the the best make to buy. Thanks.Pa Clampett.

This gets asked a lot, have you used the search facility?
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Yep, they recon the life of a lead acid battery is around 5 years.
Having said that, my lead acid leisure battery is 12 years old and still works fine, although I keep it almost permanently connected to a smart charger, which I believe is the reason for it’s longevity.
If I was to ever replace it, I would seriously look at getting a Lithium ion equivalent, massive saving in weight and arguably good for 25 years!
Once prohibitively expensive Lithium ion cells have plummeted in price with the massive increase in BEV production.
Funny though how BEV makers still put a 12v lead acid battery in the cars to run the low voltage stuff, although many BEV owners change the lead acid battery for a lithium ion version.
For the price of a good L/ion battery you could buy 10 lead acid batteries!
I have an 85AH gel battery that was supplied with the caravan from new and it still powers the motor mover no problems.

I decided to buy the Yuasa L36-EFB from Banner batteries.
Other suppliers may sell them.
"For example, the Yuasa L36-EFB was part of a 'secret' group test, that we saw the results of, that made the outstanding Varta LFD/Bosch L series batteries look the poor relation, the L36-EFB was that good."

Just check the dimensions carefully.
And that's a very good choice it will also be my next battery, I'll buy the halford version (same battery different badge)

Was all the 12 volt equipment working before you disconnected the mains? It seems strange that the battery was completely flat, as even a completely knackered battery will usually retain some charge for a short while, even if less than an hour. If all the equipment was working while connected to EHU, I would suspect a break in the connection between the battery and the charger. Maybe a blown fuse or a wire disconnected. The battery has probably had it, but if you do have a charging problem, any new one will go the same way unless you fix it.
Test whether the charger is actually charging the battery by putting a voltmeter across the battery terminals with the battery connected to the caravan electrics but the mains turned off. Then switch on the mains and watch if the voltmeter registers it. Don't simply rely on the caravan's voltmeter, use an independent one.
I forgot to mention That there was a small amount of charge in the battery before we left, and that everything worked whilst on mains, but there was nothing as soo as the mains were diconnected. When a different battery was connected at the place we store our van, everything on 12v worked perfectly. It took us just over an hour to get back from where we were to where we store our van.
