I have recently bought a cadac bbq, to use alongside my existing dual grill. I understand you can connect both to the same bottle (4.5kg calor), but does this mean that if both are on at the same time then each will only get half the usual volume of gas i.e. it will take twice as long to cook?
No, the bottle will have adequate pressure to provide both appliances.
If you think about it caravan users run their heating, fridge, water heater and oven all from one bottle.
What I would suggest though is instead of a normal 'Y' piece to connect the two that you use quick release connectors.

Basically, No! You can happily use two or more appliances without loss of performance.
Yes, there is a limit that the cylinder can deliver, for a 4.5Kg Calor Butane the recommended off take (approx.) is 5Kw. Your regulator will also have a delivery limit as well, which may be less than the cylinder can deliver, but should be clearly marked, it may well be in different units such a Kg/h. Typically that will be around 1.2 Kg/h.
It does get a little more complicated when you go into the science behind LPG gases, I wont bore you with it all, but combined ambient temperature and the chilling effects of turning liquid into gas can reach a point where the cylinder no longer produces it's max potential output, or at the extreme no gas at all, LPG Butane cannot be used in ambient temps below about 5C because it will not produce gas at all.
It's highly unlikely you will have any problems with the units you describe unless you use them in low ambient temperatures, if you do wish to use them in low temperatures, then swap to a Propane cylinder (with Calor you can swap one type for the other when getting a refill without addition charge if in the same size group, and you will have no issues with ambient temperatures. You'll need a matching regulator as cylinder fittings are different), your grill and BBQ should work happily on either. Both your grill and BBQ should have either or both the kW power rating and/or gas consumption in Kg/h marked somewhere, you can calculate the combined load and compare to cylinder/regulator limits.
We've used a Kampa 2 burner plus oven stove (all burners lit!) and a gas fridge (3.8kW plus 1kW) on one cylinder without issues. As DaveS1 suggested, we also have ours with quick release couplings so you can use cylinder with only one appliance connected. You place the quick release connectors on each outlet of the Y.
I do this running my fridge and either my Hob/Grill or Cadac at the same time using Y splitter and I have all the hoses on quick release adaptors and never had any issues
we run our cadac safari chef and the caravan stove/oven when we have on site bbq's...Keep plates and cooked food warm the oven and use the stove top for cooking sauces while the burgers etc are cooked to perfection outside..Never had a problem plenty of pressure...Feeling hungry just thinking about it now.
