When we connect our portable satellite receiver to our house tv we get many channels, but When we connect it to our caravan tv we cannot get any picture.
Home Tv inputs include satellite, but our HD caravan tv only has HDMI input into which the HDMI from the satellite feed is plugged.
TV is about 15 years old now.
Could some of our electronics experts offer a solution.
Even without the satellite dish connected, you should still see something on the TV screen, like “No Satellite Signal”.
I would say you either have the TV on the wrong setting, normally there is a source button for aux or HDMI input.
Or you could just have a faulty HDMI lead.
If you are saying the portable satellite receiver works in the house using it’s HDMI output, then there is the possibility that the HDMI input socket on the caravan TV is faulty.
Try connecting another device to the caravan TV like a DVD Player, using the HDMI connection, this will confirm that the fault is with the TV if you still do not get a picture.
Yes I have a sat finder and good signal strength on the finder and on the bar showing on the house tv. The caravan tv has an inbuilt DVD player and this works perfectly but as suggested above Will try it with another external hdmi device, however, before using it in the caravan I had used it as a computer monitor. The tv only has an HDMI socket on the back and has no other sockets apart from the normal tv coax.
So I am perplexed.
Are saying that you get nothing on the TV in the caravan from the satellite receiver, not even the menu of the satellite, or “no satellite” signal message on the caravan TV screen, if this is the case, then as I mentioned before, it’s either a faulty HDMI cable, or faulty HDMI socket on the caravan TV, I don’t think it could be anything else causing the issue.
Getting a strong signal on your satellite meter does not always indicate that you are receiving the correct satellite unless it can be set specifically for Astra2, the Satlink 6906 meter has a 3” Screen and will display the channels from Astra 2, so when say Sky News or Ch5 pops up you know for sure that you have found the correct satellite quite a cheap meter to buy at around £50, as I used to work for Sky some 15 years ago, I still have my RoverSat SDM1 meter, no TV screen on that, just LCD display but it will only lock onto Astra 2, so again it makes finding the correct satellite very easy, that particular model of meter was produced exclusively for Sky engineers, about £500 a pop at the time.
Only getting a blue oval that says no signal on the caravan tv, so I think you have solved the problem.
So I might buy a new TV or just stream video previously downloaded to the IPad using the Apple cable, but some things to check out first to eliminate the break.
Thank you for your help, van is away for annual service so I will follow up your tips and when sorted will try on next trip.
Yep, probably best to connect the caravan TV to the satellite system that you have at home, as you know that is all working, which would only leave the TV to be at fault.

Satellite strength is not so important.
Satellite Quality is the more important factor and should read above 60%
