Just purchased a Toyota Regius Hiace 1998 which has no security at all (Car alarm / immobiliser), so looking to have something fitted before making any trips.
Can anyone recommend any particular brand/company in Central Scotland and what i should reasonably expect for either an alarm and/or immobiliser please?
As a very basic and cheap interim, assuming at least a steering wheel lock would be useful?
A steering wheel lock is as good as anything for a deterrent, and that's all they are really. It will stop a casual thief in their tracks, but if someone is determined and comes equipped, virtually nothing will stop them.
I had a Mazda Bongo stolen from right outside my house back in 2009, and we are in a low crime area and quite secluded. It had both an alarm and an immobiliser on it, but it still went and I didn't hear a thing. It's my opinion that someone had simply come to collect it. They knew exactly what they were looking for, where to find it, and how to get it away. Nothing else around me was touched.
