My name is Luca. I'm an avid outdoor enthusiast currently studying product design as a degree. I'm doing my major project at the moment. I'm trying to redesign the humble cool box with a few more advanced features to make it more user friendly and generally useful.
I would really appreciate if you could answer a quick survey to identify some pain points and design direction, it would really help with my project feedback. Just click the link below.
Hey ho, it’s that time of year again for design project surveys.
Luca, I did the survey but it’s got a lot of gaps as far as I’m concerned. I’ve put just some of them in the final “anything else” box.
As usual, the advice is to borrow any cool boxes you can get hold of & go away in a tent with it / them for a few days. (You can find a site nearby using the Site Search tab on UKCS.)
PS My oldest box is a 1960s Canadian one, it has handles & keeps ice frozen for a long weekend.
Good luck.

You don’t actually say if this is a powered or passive cool box. You do mention electronic cooling in one of your survey option. To produce a better cool box you need to develop better insulation than is currently available & for a powered cool box you need to develop a more efficient refrigeration motor.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone, been very interesting seeing the reposnses coming in. Thanks you to those who eleborated on with written responses, it's very much appreiated. And yes I should have clarified, it's a passivlely cooled box, not electric. I was thinking that having folding leaf tables from the sides would be a very useful feature. Perhaps for playing games, food prep, eating and general campsite enjoyment. Means you dont have to take everything off of the lid to get inside every time.

Thanks again,

I don't know about food prep, games or eating (top low) but folding side tables / wings might be handy for when you're rummaging to find the thing that's dropped to the bottom of the coolbox 👍
If you answered my last survey and are interested in what the outcome is, then you can see it by answering this survey with it's attached images. It would be great to hear some more feedback on the final design for future iterations and to evaluate the design's success.
Here is the sruvey link, let me know what you think.
